Loewy Logo Designs
Raymond Loewy had lithographs produced by the American Atelier in New York City based on his original designs. Using his 1961 design for the Avanti as a model, mylar sheets were prepared and then chemically transferred onto emulsion-coated aluminum lithographic plates. Loewy made numerous linear and color corrections by hand. The entire edition was then pulled one color at a time. The number of impressions of each lithograph was approximately 370. Each print in the edition was inspected and initialed by hand in pencil by Loewy in December 1978. The others became artists proofs and presentation proofs. In addition to the Avanti, lithographs were created for the S1 and T1 locomotives; Air Force One; the Hydrofoil Boat; the NASA Space Taxi, Skylab, and EVA projects; and the Moon Landing.
